How to measure your specimen jars

1. Cut a ½” strip off the top of a standard 8.5” x 11″ sheet of paper (figure 1).
2. Wrap the strip of paper around the specimen jar just below the screw-top lip at the top of the jar (figure 2).
3. The flange holds the jar in the BLT. TIP: make sure the strip is flat and straight.
4. Carefully mark the point where the strip overlaps itself.
5. Lay the strip against a ruler and measure the distance from the start of the strip to the mark in millimeters. The number of millimeters is the circumference of the specimen jar (figure 3).
6. If the marks are between millimeters, round up.

NOTE: Some jars taper slightly at the base. The most accurate way to ensure your jars fit in the BLT well is the ‘paper strip’ method.
